A fun airline from South Africa

31 Aug

WHAT A PITY KULULA DOESN’T FLY INTERNATIONALLY – WE SHOULD SUPPORT THEM IF ONLY FOR THEIR HUMOUR – SO TYPICALLY SOUTH AFRICAN.

Kulula is an Airline with head office situated in Johannesburg .

Kulula airline attendants make an effort to make the in-flight “safety lecture” and announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

——————————————————————–

On a Kulula flight, (there is no assigned seating, you just sit where you want) passengers were apparently having a hard time choosing, when a flight attendant announced, “People, people we’re not picking out furniture here, find a seat and get in it!”

BBC radio invite discussion on the graduate job situation

28 Aug

The BBC radio programme ‘You and Yours’ recently had an excellent discussion about graduates looking for jobs.

The programme lasts less than an hour but has views on the job market from graduates, careers advisors and people in industry. There is a lot of talk about ‘employability’.

Have a listen at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00tfqvj/You_and_Yours_24_08_2010/

At Changing Worlds we can help graduates – we offer the opportunity to gain and build upon important skills in initiative, working as a part of the team, communication, leadership.

A gap year will help build on these skills and much plus offering the chance to travel and see the World.

James says thanks for his internship with Changing Worlds

27 Aug

James has worked for Changing Worlds over six weeks of his summer. He is about to embark on a business degree at Dundee university starting this September.

As part of his preperation James spent some time with us understanding how a small business works on a day to day basis.

As time moved on James became more confident with his own abilities so much so that we were able to delegate specific tasks for him based on his areas of interest and expertise. James was particularly in interested in marketing and e-marketing so we developed this over his internship period.

Staying in touch?

26 Aug

The Year Out Group has some useful advice on its blog regarding the importance of staying in touch whilst overseas:

http://www.yearoutgroup.org/Year-Out-Group-Gap-Year-News/Gap-year-students-urged-to-keep-in-constant-contact-800037569-News.htm

As an active member of the YOG we encourage all our participants to keep in regular contact with loved ones at home.

At Changing Worlds we brief all our participants at their pre departure briefing course usually held about a month or two before departure.

We cover the all important issues of:

  • visa application
  • flights – ongoing and return
  • orientation on arrival
  • placement details
  • accommodation
  • food and drink

24 Aug

Carrie has clearly enjoyed her placement in Masterton, North Island, New Zealand. She was teaching a primary school and as you will read she did so much during her stay:
Hi David,

I don’t know if you are aware but my time here in Masterton is coming to an end and I thought I would drop you a quick email with a bit of feedback.
